Choreographer and director Liz Lerman served as artist-in-residence for a campus-wide project called Worth Fighting For, one of the most ambitious and expansive projects ever undertaken by Hancher. Lerman visited with company members in September and October of 2014. She worked with students to create a Pop Up Museum at the University of Iowa Main Library November 7-11, housing static and performed works inspired by the themes of Healing and War. Lerman's company performed Healing Wars at Space Place Theater on November 13-15, 2014.

I thought Healing Wars was very innovative. I liked the pre-show walk through. I thought the dancing was great. I admired the emotional inclusion of the veteran. I thought the visuals were excellent with graphics and lighting and videos.
I especially enjoyed Taylor Gillhouse at the Pop Up Museum.
Thanks for bring Liz Lerman to campus again! She is terrific and I use her book Critical Response in my classes.

This performance forces me into hyperbole. I've attended performances at Hancher in the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, and 10s. This has to be one of my Top 5 favorites. My biggest regret is that I didn't realize I would want to see this performance multiple times, but the next performance was sold out.
I can't begin to put words to what I saw. I can only recommend that when the new Hancher opens, Hancher feels inclined to bring Liz Lerman back for some other performance, perhaps a commission, with similar residency and community engagement. If that happens, I will know to buy tickets for multiple performances in advance.
I love that the Pop Up Museum was in the library but I also wish I could have encountered it in a less busy environment and less cluttered atmosphere.

Spectacular event! Not usually into dance type events, but this is one of the most thought provoking fantastic events I gave seen.
